Beautiful St Deinst Church in Llangarron is hosting a concert 6:30 for 7pm on the 10th October 2014 (yes, this Friday). Those braving the predicted squally weather will be treated to performances from Cantabile and the HCS Senior Wind Quintet. On Thursday 16th October at 7:00pm join Cantabile at Christchurch, Malvern to raise funds for ARCOS a brilliant local charity and their SMILE project. Tickets and more information are available from ARCOS.
Cantabile’s Autumn singing engagements culminate with Hereford’s own answer to the ‘Proms’ on the 18th October. The Military Charities ‘Proms’ starts at 7:30pm with Cantabile and the fabulous British Police Symphony Orchestra promising to make it a memorable evening for all involved. Tickets can be bought at the Cathedral Shop and also the Outback in Church Street.
Singing for shoppers was the first of Cantabile’s efforts to raise funds so that they could take part in the European Choir Games in Magdeburg in 2015. However practicalities mean they have now set their sights on the 2016 Games so they have more time to raise the funds needed.
On Saturday members of the Choir, with Mrs Williamson, made their own contribution to the Flower Festival and h-art events in Herefordshire to sing for visitors to Hereford’s ‘Independent Quarter’ in Church Street. They also sang in the main square in the afternoon courtesy of Marks and Spencers.
They are looking for sponsors who would be happy to give dedicated and talented young singers the exciting opportunity to participate in a European choral tour and competition. Can you help?

Cantabile sing in the Children’s Folk Choir
Jo Williamson’s preparations for the Eisteddfod this year followed their usual precise course aided by the newest member of the team from Hereford Cathedral Schools’s Music department, Mrs Cuthbert, joining forces with Mr Lane our accompaniest.
The choir’s hard work was almost scuppered by a contagion of summer colds which left Jess Price, the lead soloist in ‘I got a Robe’, taking a hit for the team and withdrawing from her vocal solo competition to save her voice for the choir entries. Our other two soloists were Rachel Roper in ‘O Waly Waly’ and Charlotte Pawley in ‘A Bunch of Thyme’.
Although no choir to date has won three years in a row, Cantabile gave it their all and despite the strength of the competition won third place in the Children’s Folk Choir. They gained the third highest mark across the three Children’s choir classes for their renditions of ‘A Bunch of Thyme’ and ‘Bobby Shaftoe’.
The welsh choir Côr Heol-y-March , who Cantabile just pipped to 6th place in the Senior Children’s Choir competition, won Choir of the World. The Russian Krasnoyarsk City Children’s Choir in the Children’s Folk Choir competition was spectacular to watch.

Cantabile are delighted to be taking part in the Military Charities Concert on the 18th October 2014 at Hereford Cathedral. The concert is part of a programme of events nationally commemorating the centenary of the First World War. It will feature the British Police Symphony Orchestra conducted by Richard Jenkinson.
In Herefordshire, the Lord-Lieutenant has set up The First World War Commemoration Committee (FWCC) to think about what could be done locally and devise an outline programme of events.

Cantabile are singing at Christ Church in Malvern on the 16th October 2014 to support the local ARCOS charity . All proceeds will go to help with their SMILE project which received pump priming support from Children in Need.
SMILE (Sensation Movement Interaction in Life Experiences) is based at the ARCOS Therapy Centre in Malvern. It is a stay and play facility that encourages parents to play and learn alongside their children with the help and support of fully trained experienced staff. This approach to sensory, family learning helps to create a supportive atmosphere for all the family to enjoy.

Come and help them raise as much as possible for this fantastic project.
Cantabile didn’t win but we didn’t lose either! As we congratulate our fellow finalists on a hard fought choral battle, we can be consoled by the truly lovely comments from the Judges Suzi Digby, Gareth Malone and Laura Mvula that recognised the quality of the singing from the Cantabile girls (and also the beautiful runners up trophy).
Listen to the performances on BBC iplayer and hopefully you will hear both the love and enthusiasm they have for choral singing as well as their technical brilliance which the Judges clearly felt singled them out and provided those ‘Magical Moments’. Jess Price sang the beautiful solo which anchored their second hymn ‘I Got a Robe’.

Now the exam season is upon us, their next performance as a Choir will be at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod where they get to show a different repertoire. However choir members Serena Linley-Adams and Charlotte Pawley will also be singing in the Under 18s vocal solo competition this year with Jess Price singing in the 18 and over vocal solo competition.

The final episode of three will reveal who gets the coveted Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year trophy in 2014. It is going out slightly later than the other two episodes at 17:45 on BBC One. The BBC clip gives a flavour of the treats in store for us.
